FAQs (SPH internal applicants only)

Q1. Is it possible to identify more than one mentor?
A1. Yes, more than one mentor or a mentor team may be identified but note, there is no financial support for mentor(s).

Q2. What is the format for the LOI?
A2.  There is no page limit for the LOI. Per the guidance, please include tentative title, research objectives, and named investigators in the LOI submission. The LOI will enable the program organizers to estimate the number of potential applicants in order to assemble the reviewer teams. 

Q3. What should the text read in the mentor letter?
A3.  There is no defined text. At a minimum the letter should indicate the mentor's support of the proposal and their willingness to serve as a mentor.

Q4. Can a mentor aso be a Co-I?
A4.  Yes.

Q5.  For the interdisciplinary component, is it okay to work with people outside the university?
A5.  Yes, you can work with collaborators outside of TAMU but no funds will be transferred outside of SPH.

Q6.  Is it considered interdisciplinary work between a person in Biostatistics and Statistics?
A6.  You will need to explain how this is interdisciplinary (i.e., how are multiple disciplines or sub-disciplines engaged in the project)

Q7.  Can I have a collaborator from another country?
A7.  Yes, you can have international collaborators but foreign travel or payment to external collaborators for their time, travel, or other expenses is not allowed.

Q8.  Are references included in the 2 page limit?
A8.   No, references or citations will not be counted toward the 2 page narrative page limit. Up to 10 references allowed.

Q9.  What are the margin requirements? 
A9.  One-half inch (minimum).

Q10.  Is tuition allowed?
A11.  Only student salary and fringes are allowed on REDI grants.

Q11.  Is the budget included in the page limit?
A11.  No, it is not counted toward the page limit. This section should be limited to one paragraph.

Q12.  What is the format of the biosketch? 
A12.  Please use the most current NIH biosketch template available at: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/forms/biosketch.htm 

Q13.  May I collaborate with previously funded REDI grantees? 
A13. Yes. 

Q14.  Is international travel allowed? 
A14.  Travel for international meetings/conferences/collaborator meetings is not an allowable expense. Travel for the purpose of data
collection activities may be allowable (with justification and program review/approval)
