Business Associate Agreement

A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is a written agreement or contract between a covered entity (generally a health provider) and a business associate.  A business associate may be an individual or an entity that performs services or activities on behalf of the covered entity that involve access to protected health information by the business associate.  The business associate may also be an entity that creates, receives, maintains, or transmits protected health information on behalf of another business associate.  In cases such as these, a Business Associate agreement should be executed.  The BAA must be signed by the appropriate authorized institutional representative for the Texas A&M Health Science Center.  Examples of approved Business Associate Agreements are posted below:
